Gamages, Types of the U.S. Forces
(Infantry & Cavalry Display Set), circa 1939/41, comprising: cavalry officer, empty handed plus 4 cavalry troopers holding carbines and infantry officer, empty handed plus 7 infantry men marching at slope in steel helmets. Mint. This lot was acquired via a well known English auction house, where they were described as Britains "Specials", in many cases supplied through Gamages. There is no compelling evidence that Gamages ever produced such special orders. There is no doubt that they are one off special commissions, but the identity of the maker/ painter remains unconfirmed.
